A former professor of mine o
nce defined the book as “the greatest invention in the history of humankind.” He argued that the book is the most valuable form of technology ever produced, because it records events and ideas, and allows them to spread through every level of society. You will probably agree with me that he was right.
We are lucky to live in a time when books are mass-produced and easy to acquire. Books come in paperbacks, hardcovers, and audiobooks. Even better, they come in e-books. We have ready access to so the magic of making up much information our ancestors would probably turn green with envy.
If you do not believe me, imagine yourself in need of some urgent relationship advice, maybe to save your drowning marriage. You then decide to purchase an e-book called The Magic of Making Up. Just like that, you have taken an important first step toward solving your problems. You can do this because you live in the Information Age —but when did your grandmother have it so easy?
